Microgrant Alert: International Disability Alliance initiatives to advance Assistive Technologies

The Global Partnership for Assistive Technology (ATScale) and the International Disability Alliance (IDA) have joined forces to launch the IDA-ATScale Microgrants 2023. This initiative aims to empower organizations representing persons with disabilities and assistive technology users to spearhead local and national projects focused on advancing assistive technologies in select countries.

Objectives:

The IDA-ATScale Microgrants 2023 will fund activities encompassing the following key areas:

1. Advocacy for improved access to and utilization of assistive technology.

2. Media campaigns, including impactful social media initiatives, to raise awareness about assistive technologies for persons with disabilities and other identified AT users.

3. Production of reports, case studies, and other evidence on assistive technologies tailored for persons with disabilities and other identified AT users, with special emphasis on underrepresented groups. These reports will feature innovative tools and best practices aimed at policymakers, development stakeholders, and others involved in the practical implementation of assistive technology initiatives.

4. Capacity-building efforts related to legal frameworks, policies, financing, and other pertinent issues regarding access to assistive technologies. This includes initiatives aimed at positively influencing national policy-making, decision-making, and implementation processes.

5. Initiatives assessing the impact of assistive technologies.

6. Initiatives promoting access to assistive technologies within specific sectors, such as education, employment, health, independent living, and more.

Funding Information:

A total of four microgrants will be awarded, each amounting to $7,500 USD. These grants will span a duration of 5 months, providing an invaluable opportunity to drive local and national initiatives aimed at advancing assistive technologies.

Completed applications must be submitted before 5pm CET on Friday 10th November 2023.

Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations applying for the IDA-ATScale Microgrants 2023 must meet the following requirements and qualifications:

1. Be a legally recognized entity or organization representing persons with disabilities.

2. Be registered in one of the following countries: Kenya, Cambodia, Senegal, Georgia, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Rwanda, DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, or Honduras.
